Your Self-Definition Affects Your Procrastination

By: Dr. Gwen Smith

The way you view yourself will always determine the type of results you get. Closely tied to your view of self are the things you allow to permeate your subconscious mind, which runs on automatic around 95-99% of the events in your life.

Looking at your life from a new perspective is a start in working to transform areas that have, prior to this moment, yielded unsatisfactory results. At times, due to being stuck in your current situation you may find yourself inhibiting the new vision of what your life could become, further slowing down your progress.

For example, let's take an event in your life, which may not be so trivial: your career. How do you define yourself in line with this career? How do you feel about doing it? Does it fulfill you? Do you desire to be at another step in your career ladder, or do you desire a new career altogether?

Which is it for you and how is your self-definition in relation to the new goal you're seeking?

Without having a clear definition of your current self in the future desired position, you may find yourself procrastinating on taking the steps that will advance you to where your desires are being strongly expressed internally.

Beyond this, you may also find yourself handicapped by your current self-limiting beliefs, the voices in your head and all the justifications that come up due to the limited old self-beliefs which need to be replaced.

To transform your current procrastination in getting what you want, whether it relates to your career, personal goals or relationships, its important to put forth a new definition of yourself. You must actively set an intention of who you want to become.

It's like driving a stake and notifying your subconscious that things will be different. Beyond this, you must start seeing yourself differently, setting that specific intention of who you'd like to become, then taking all the necessary steps outlined in my latest Facebook Live video to help you to get there. Watch the video for additional highlights:

Its reported that only 5-8% of people are successful in achieving their goals on a yearly basis: the promotions, the money, the weight loss, the success as defined by them.

These folks take on and continue to do the things that support them in getting to where they need to go despite any fears, self-limiting beliefs or roadblocks that crop up.

To achieve like the 5-8 percenters require that you do what they do, not exactly as they do, but in a manner that suits your individuality and uniqueness, and nevertheless following a similar path.

As you watch the video and interact with what the 5-8% do, set a plan for yourself on how you are going to get that done, keeping in mind that you may need support in getting there.

If you want to overcome the hurdles that will surely come your way, understanding and applying the principles is a place to start.

I'll be doing a series on overcoming procrastination to get results in any area of your life that you are currently struggling in. I invite you to come back each Monday to read, participate and comment.
